Granulocyte Macrophage Colony Stimulating Factor, GM-CSF, ishematopoietic factor produced by endothelial cells, monocytes,fibroblasts and T cells in response to a number of inflammatorymediators. GM-CSF is able to stimulate the production ofneutrophilic granulocytes, macrophages, and mixedgranulocyte-macrophage colonies from bone marrow cells. GM-CSFcan also stimulate some functional activities in maturegranulocytes and macrophages.Human and mouse GM-CSF show nocross-reactivity. Recombinant rat GM-CSF is anon-glycosylated protein, containing 128 amino acids and has apredicted molecular weight of 14.6 kDa.
