Interleukin-17A (IL-17A), also known as CTLA-8, is apro-inflammatory cytokine member of a six-species family ofproteins (IL-17A-17F). IL-17A is secreted mainly byactivated CD4+ and CD8+ T lymphocytes and acts through itsreceptor, IL-17R, to induce the expression of many mediators ofinflammation, most importantly, those that are involved in theproliferation, maturation and chemotaxis of neutrophils. Elevated levels of IL-17A have been associated with severalconditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, airway inflammation, allograft rejection, inflammatory boweldisease, psoriasis, cancerand multiple sclerosis. Human, mouse and rat IL-17A showactivity on mouse cells. Recombinant mouse IL-17A is anon-glycosylated, disulfide-linked homodimer, containing two 134amino acid subunits and having a total molecular mass of 30 kDa.
