Generally,basesareretainedlongerontheHSF5thanonaC18.IncreasingtheorganiccontentofaC18separation5to10percentwillgenerallyprovidesimilarretentiononanHSF5.Resultswithothercompoundsarehighlyvariable.However,itisgenerallytruethatsoluteswithlog Po/wvalueslessthan2.5willberetainedlongeronHSF5comparedtoaC18.Thedegreeofdifferenceishighlysolutedependent.
TheDiscovery®HSF5bondedphaseprovidesreversed-phaseseparationsthataredistinctlydifferentfromC18columns.However,compoundswillgenerallyelutewithinthesameretentiontimewindow,makingmostC18methodseasilytransferable.
