LH-RH [D-Ala6] is an analog of luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH), also known as Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH). LHRH binds the gonadotropin releasing hormone receptor on gonadotrope cells in the pituitary gland, stimulating phospholipase C to release calcium and activating protein kinase C. LH-RH controls many functions including follicular growth, ovulation, corpus luteum maintenance in females, and spermatogenesis in males. The D-Ala6 analog acts as a potent LH-RH agonist and can induce ovulation and synchronize the reproductive cycle in Sprague-Dawley female rats.
