Fibroblast Growth Factors, FGFs, are a 22 member family ofproteins known to be involved in angiogenesis, wound healing andembryonic development. As a family, they bind to heparin andsignal through four receptor tyrosine kinases called, FGFR1, 2, 3and 4. Although the mechanism remains unclear, FGF-basic is acritical component in keeping embryonic stem cellsundifferentiated in cell culture systems. Recombinant mouse FGFis a non-gylcosylated protein, containing 145 amino acids andhaving a molecular mass of 16.3 kDa.
