Orexin A and Orexin B are neuropeptides produced in the lateral and posterior hypothalmus. They bind the OX1 and OX2 GPCRs which are involved in food uptake. Orexin A binds to OX1 & OX2 with equal affinity while Orexin B primarily binds to OX2. In addition the Orexins have been shown to have roles in wakefulness, mood, addiction, and lipid metabolism.
