Interleukin-17AF (IL-17AF) is a member of the IL-17 family ofproteins produced by a subset of T cells, called Th17, followingstimulation with IL-23. Since IL-17AF is thought to signalthrough the IL-17R receptor, its biological function is similarto that of IL-17A in that it induces the production of a varietyof chemokines, in addition to airway neutrophilia. In regard tothese functions, IL-17AF has less activity than the IL-17Ahomodimer but, greater activity than the IL-17F homodimer. Humanand rat IL-17AF both show activity on mouse cells.Recombinantmouse IL-17AF is a non-glycosylated, disulfide-linkedheterodimer. It is comprised of one monomeric subunit each ofIL-17A and IL-17F, having a total of 271 amino acids and anmolecular weight of 30.7 kDa.
