  Angiopoietin-like5(ANGPTL5),alsocalledangiopoietin-likeprotein5orangiopoietin-relatedprotein5,isasecretedfactorwithhighhomologytoangiopoietinswhichareimportantregulatorsofangiogenesis.Angiopoietinsbindtotheangiopoietin-specificreceptorTIE-2,whereasangiopoietin-likeproteinsdonotbindtothisreceptor.ThereceptorforANGPTL5isnotyetknown.Duetoacoiled-coildomain,whichcaninteractwiththeextracellularmatrix,theyexistprimarilyashomooligomers.Angiopoietin-likeproteinsarepotentregulatorsofangiogenesiseitherproangiogenicorantiangiogenicfactors,suggestingthattheirreceptorsmaybeexpressedonendothelialcells.Theyalsoshowpleiotropiceffectsoncellsofotherlineages,suchasskincellsandchondrocytes.Angiopoietin-likeproteinsplayaroleinlipidandtriglyceridemetabolismandvertebratedevelopment.IthasbeenshownthatANGPTL5stimulatestheexvivoexpansionofhumancordbloodhematopoieticstemcells.
