Prolactin (PRL) is a hormone that is made and secreted bythe pituitary gland and acts in anendocrine, paracrine and autocrine manner. The prolactin receptor is expressed on many cell typesand is linked to JAK kinase signalingpathways. PRL’s primary function is to regulatelactation, but it is known to have many other regulationfunctions. These functions include roles in the immunesystem, cell growth, apoptosis, and differentiation.
