Fibroblast Growth Factors, FGFs, are a 22 member family ofproteins known to be involved in angiogenesis, wound healing andembryonic development. As a family, they bind to heparin andsignal through four receptor tyrosine kinases called, FGFR1, 2, 3and 4. FGF-acidic, or FGF1, is a particularly potent inducer ofDNA synthesis and has chemotactic activities. Recombinant humanFGF1 is a non-glycosylated protein, containing 141 amino acidsand having a molecular mass of 16 kDa.
