Gentamicin kills Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, andmycoplasma. It works by binding to microbial ribosomes andpreventing the initiation of protein synthesis. Gentamicin isvery stable in solution and lasts many days in culture. It isgenerally more effective than streptomycin. This product shouldbe used with caution, as high concentrations can retard cellgrowth. Recommended concentration in cell culture is 50 mg/L.
